The USWNT will be heading into a new phase. Although American soccer is going through a diverse shift, women’s soccer will see even more different features. It was recently announced that Emma Hayes will take over the women’s team in a few months. Even before taking up the job, Hayes made the headlines because of the jaw-dropping $1.6 million paycheque. While that’s been raising several questions, she feels she is worth that much money with the high expectations too after starting from a four-figure salary.

Over the years, the USWNT has had a lot of success, winning many trophies barring this year’s World Cup. Whether the team would continue its serial winning legacy under Emma Hayes is the main question.

Emma Hayes has had a very successful coaching stint at her current club. The Chelsea manager has agreed to move back to the US at the end of the season, becoming one of the highest-paid female coaches in the world. After several questions were raised on her USWNT salary, she quoted, “I’m not going to comment on what’s written in the press about pay cuz, I’m just not. I’ve certainly been awarded a contract that I think I’m worth.”

Hayes has been deservedly appointed after she proved herself in the FA Women’s Super League in England. She will join the team in May, two months before the Olympics kick off in Paris. The issue of equal pay for both genders has gathered a lot of traction in the last few years with former players like Megan Rapinoe vouching for the issue. The USA was successful in bringing about a policy last year. Through this, Hayes will be earning a similar salary to USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter.
