Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the soccer world by choosing to move to Saudi Arabia. It is publicly known that the Portuguese star had an offer from a soccer club in America. Sporting Kansas City offered Ronaldo a ‘huge’ salary package. However, Ronaldo still decided to continue his career with Al-Nassr F.C.
Al-Nassr F.C. is a soccer club based in Saudi Arabia. Soccer fans and pundits from all over the world are still divided over Ronaldo’s decision to play soccer for Al-Nassr F.C. The Saudi-based club planned a grand opening for the unveiling of Cristiano Ronaldo as their player.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo is in the headlines again, for the wrong reasons. During his first-ever interview as an Al-Nassr player, the Portuguese star made a major blunder.
A major blunder by Cristiano Ronaldo!
During the interview, Cristiano Ronaldo mistakenly said ‘South Africa’ instead of Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo said, “For me it is not the end of my career coming to South Africa. This is why I want to change and to be honest I really don’t worry about what people say. I took my decision and I have a responsibility to change that”.

It’s obvious that this was an honest error on the soccer legend’s part. However, this could have turned out to be a lot worse if the upper authorities’ sentiments were hurt.
The Portuguese star also mentioned that he’d received offers from many other soccer clubs across the world. He said, “There are many clubs who tried to sign me but I gave the word to this club for the opportunity. To develop not only the football but other part of this amazing country. For me it’s a good challenge. I know what I want and I know what I don’t want”.

Ronaldo received a very warm welcome from all the soccer fans in Saudi Arabia. The stadium was filled with fans and he couldn’t stop chanting “Ronaldo…Ronaldo…Ronaldo”
Rio Ferdinand always had Ronaldo’s back
While the entire soccer universe was against Ronaldo’s decision of joining Al-Nassr, his old Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand stood up for the Portuguese star. The Manchester United legend believed that Ronaldo has earned this opportunity to now go and do whatever he wants.
Rio Ferdinand:
"The media is disgusting. When Rooney, Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard went to America they used to say that it was a great way to end their career, but when Cristiano Ronaldo decided to do this, it became a shame and a disaster only because he went to Saudi Arabia.” pic.twitter.com/vhrdhHat27

Ferdinand bashed the critics that said the Portuguese star is now playing for just the money. Ferdinand pointed out that many soccer superstars like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, and many more also shifted to the U.S. towards the end of their careers and had big paycheques.
It definitely is not a sad ending to his career. Ronaldo and Ferdinand both claimed that the Saudi league is ‘very competitive’. The Portuguese soccer legend has taken upon himself a new challenge of growing soccer as a sport in Saudi Arabia.
