Which soccer club shares the deepest bond with its fans? Most likely, Wrexham. From extinction to promotion, the locals have seen it all. Recently, Wrexham’s goal machine Paul Mullin spoke about every fan’s undying love. He stated that many of them once mortgaged or sold their house entirely to raise funds to save the Welsh soccer club. And most of these people surprisingly belong to the working class.

Mullin made it a point to appreciate the fan’s undying love over the years. About a decade ago, this soccer club was on the verge of extinction and that’s when the fans made their presence felt.

In the beginning, everyone was quite skeptical about Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover. But with time, the Hollywood duo has embedded itself into the Wrexham family. The club managed to win promotion after fifteen long years. Apart from the locals, newer fans from all over the globe tuned in to witness ‘the moment’. Ever-loved Paul Mullin recently spoke about the fan’s support for the club.

He said, “Every football fan loves their club, it’s not just Wrexham fans. Everybody does, that’s just the way it is. Fans have put the money together and mortgage the houses and sold the houses in order to keep the club afloat it’s hard-working class time. That’s probably why I resonate with them so well being from Liverpool and being from a working-class family myself”.

“The people spend their hard-earned money to come and watch us every weekend. The stadium is sold out every week”. Without a doubt, Paul Mullin was truly grateful to the fanbase. In context to Mullin’s goal against Boreham Wood that won them promotion, the striker commented on the fan’s uproar.

He quoted, “I think all emotions and what they’ve been through for the last 15-16 years was all released in that moment”. While the Racecourse has a 10k seating capacity, Mullin revealed that it sounded like 40k people at that moment.

2011 is a year that nobody from Wrexham will want to remember. Prior to the 2011-12 season, the Football Conference board asked the club to pay $250k. That would basically act as a ‘financial guarantee’ while securing their spot in the league. But the board could only raise up to $150k. Wrexham was on the verge of not existing anymore. That’s when the fans stepped in.

In the span of just seven hours, the locals managed to anyhow raise the additional 100k. Each and every person made a contribution. And the fanbase managed to save the club. Little over ten years later, they’re back on track under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Maybe, it’s a bit too early to predict their future in the English Premier League, but the Hollywood dream is definitely on.
