Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid can’t seem to catch a break from the spotlight. While PSG may have tried to block the striker’s move to La Liga this summer, it was Madrid itself that eventually backed out of the deal in the first place to avoid a precarious situation.
Additionally, just days ago, Los Blancos released an official statement to confirm they are not in any negotiations with the Frenchman, amid links of a $37 million transfer.

In a recent episode of “The Debrief” podcast, renowned journalists Angus Scott, Ben Jacobs, and Guillem Balague sat down for a long interview. There, Scott brought up the talk of Mbappe and Madrid. He asked Jacobs if the player would be making a move to Madrid in January.
Interestingly, Jacobs replied, “No, at the moment from what I’m hearing for January, there is nothing at all. I think it’s really unlikely because Mbappe is only focused on Paris Germain because we still remember in the summer, the situation, especially in July, was really tense between him and PSG. Then, they were able to fix the situation at the end of August. Now to be again in a fight is something that I don’t see is possible.”
Additionally, Jacobs insisted that there’s some positivity between Mbappe and PSG, and neither would like to change this story in January. The reporter then claimed that the reason for Madrid’s statement denying interest in Mbappe was because they were aware that nothing would change in the winter. Instead, the club would decide in February, March, or April.
“They didn’t want to have a tense situation again between them and PSG or between PSG and Mbappe. They want the situation to be normal because that’s the reality today and then to discuss that story in the first months of 2024,” he concluded.

Indeed, this is quite an interesting revelation. However, there is also another reason for Madrid’s statement on Mbappe.
The other side of Real Madrid’s statement
Contrary to earlier reports indicating Madrid’s disinterest in Mbappe, it seems these reports were strategically leaked by the club. In actuality, the La Liga powerhouse continues to show interest in Mbappe. According to RMC Sport, the club is set to pursue his signature next summer. The purpose behind this leak is to preserve the club’s image following their unsuccessful attempt to secure his signing this summer.
