In soccer, documentaries usually focus on players after they hang up their boots and etch a glorious legacy for themselves. Pele, Luis Figo, and David Beckham are some prominent examples that followed this formula. So, when Christian Pulisic announced his documentary with Paramount+ titled Pulisic, many fans found it puzzling. The American star is still in his prime and far from retiring, so a documentary feels too early. However, for Captain America, there’s no better time than now, considering the form he is in.

The 26-year-old aims to give fans an exclusive look into his life and career. But that’s not all. Pulisic aims to wipe the stigma surrounding American soccer players who play in Europe. This season, the former Chelsea star became the fastest player to reach 50 goal contributions for the USMNT and is in fine form for AC Milan. So perhaps it is the right time to release a personal series.

I look at the timing of a World Cup coming up in the U.S. and the sport is the biggest it’s ever been. It seems like the right time” says the USMNT forward, who wants to inspire the next generation of soccer players. And with the 2026 World Cup taking place in the North American continent, the docuseries could boost soccer PR.

Pulisic is an inspiration alright, when you consider the trend of young American players leaving their domestic league (MLS) to play soccer in Europe. A good example is Cole Campbell. The 18-year-old, like Pulisic, went through Borussia Dortmund’s youth ranks before recently getting his first senior cap in the Bundesliga.

As the saying goes, a coin has two sides. Pulisic’s docuseries have drawn some criticism. While many acknowledge his skills as a player, there is an opinion that the USMNT star is not ‘significant’ enough to warrant a documentary. For now, the AC Milan and USMNT camps have something else to worry about

Christian Pulisic out for the rest of 2024?

During AC Milan’s 1-2 defeat to Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium, Christian Pulisic came off in the 38th minute. A foul by Mario Pašalić forced the American to limp off the pitch in what seems to be a calf injury. The forward underwent a scan on Monday which revealed a low-grade calf tear, and is set to undergo more tests.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Christian Pulisic's documentary a bold move or premature for a player still in his prime?

Have an interesting take?

Pulisic will be missing Milan’s Champions League clash with Crvena Zvezda and won’t appear in Paul Fonseca’s squad for Serie A matches against Genoa, Verona, and Roma. The American has scored eight goals and provided six assists for the Rossoneri this season. So his injury comes as a massive blow to the Italian side.

Pulisic will be fit by the time ex-Chelsea boss and USMNT manager, Mauricio Pochettino will call upon his services for the Nations League semifinals. With around 2 years before the World Cup takes place at home, Pulisic will have plenty of fans chanting his name. Hopefully, the USMNT star’s documentary will achieve the same level of success as ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
