Wrexham ended last season on a record high by ending their 15-year absence from League 2. After amassing a historic 111 points to clinch the National League, expectations were high for the Ryan Reynolds-owned side to continue their form in League 2. However much to everyone’s dismay, the Welsh club has managed to win only a single game in four League 2 matches this season. The silver lining however is the heart shown by the Red Dragons which has mightily impressed their owner Ryan Reynolds as well.

The most recent example of this famed mark of conviction of Wrexham is their last night’s entertaining 5-5 draw against Swindon Town. The Welsh side made a stunning second-half comeback from 4-1 as they managed to score four goals to equalize the opposition’s 5. Due to this second-half goal bonanza, the Red Dragons managed to break a unique 64-year-old goal-scoring record. Ryan Reynolds as expected was thrilled.

Wrexham inspired by its Hollywood owners has been a proper entertainment package this season. While they don’t have points in the table to bank on, their performances surely have won hearts. Thanks to their incredible goal-scoring consistency, the Red Dragons have managed to break a 64-year-old goalscoring record.

As per reports, a total of 24 goals have been scored in Wrexham’s home matches. Among these 24, the home team and the opposition team have scored a dozen each thus making it the most number of goals scored in the first three home games for a team in the top four tiers. The record was previously held by Chelsea in 1958/59.

While breaking a record is appreciable, Ryan Reynolds was more excited by the heart shown by his boys to mount this stunning comeback. Coming back from 4-1 in the last 45 minutes is an incredulous effort and the Deadpool star made sure to appreciate his boys for it. So much heart. #NeverLeaveAWrexhamMatchEarly,” cheekily tweeted the co-owner.

However, Reynolds wasn’t the only one to publicly appreciate his team. The head coach had quite a bit to say too. Let’s dive deeper.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Phil Parkinson first commended his team for mounting an incredible comeback. He was proud of his team for having the belief in them to make this possible. “Where do you start? At 4-1 down at half-time I was confident we could respond and that’s a credit to the group”, as compiled by Sport Bible. “I’ve been in dressing rooms before as a player and as a manager where that would worry you and it certainly didn’t,” stated Parkinson expressing the trust he has in his players.

He however did add that conceding 4 goals in a single half is alarming. Hence he really wants his team to introspect and do better in the coming matches. “But we’ve also got to be honest that the very basics have got to be so much better. The lads were never ever giving in. We need to do better.”
