Every soccer fan is eagerly looking forward to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The USWNT is currently in New Zealand playing two friendly games to prepare for the upcoming World Cup campaign. While major names like Megan Rapinoe and Sophia Smith are still missing, the USWNT put on quite a good show in their first game after beating New Zealand 4-0.

After taking a major thrashing in the first game, the fans hoped the World Cup co-hosts to put on a better performance today.
USWNT score 5 and run riot!
However, it appears like the USWNT ran the show for the first half of the second game as well. The score at halftime was 2-0. The fans were a bit surprised after they heard about Alex Morgan’s late ‘knock’ just hours before the game. However, Ashley Hatch, who seems to have started in place of her, seems to be running the show today. Hatch opened the scoring after she tucked the ball past the goalkeeper after a wonderful through ball by Swanson.

Rose Lavelle doubled their lead after Sofia Huerta engineered a wonderful through ball that Lavelle confidently tucked into the back of the net. It started to get a bit embarrassing for New Zealand after Swanson scored a goal in her third consecutive. Following that, Rose Lavelle doubled her goal tally and increased the USWNT’s lead to four goals after slotting yet another one right past the keeper.
The USWNT really did not seem in the mood to go home so soon. Taylor Kornieck, who came on as a substitute, extended the USWNT’s lead to five goals.
Let’s have a look at how the fans reacted to USWNT’s triumph over New Zealand.

4 – 0 in the first game; the US is really gearing up for the World Cup!
The USWNT fans quite knew that this would be a walk-through. However, they never imagined the game to be so graceful. Mallory Swanson has been in the form of her life during the last year. Swanson, who recently tied the knot with Chicago Cubs’ Dansby Swanson, scored a brace in USWNT’s first friendly against New Zealand.

Trinity Rodman was a constant feature on the scoresheet after she assisted two goals out of the four. At just the age of 20, the young soccer star already has the world at her feet. However, her role in the squad seems to be limited due to the squad’s insane depth in the forwards category. However, Rodman could be a regular starter if any of the forwards pick up a heavy injury in the next six months.

With Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe turning 34 and 38 respectively, the World Cup seems like ages away when you have aging stars in the squad. Lynn Williams then sealed the game after she scored the fourth and final goal of the game. The USWNT will take on Canada, Japan, and Brazil in the ‘She Believes’ Cup in February. These additional games will further aid the USWNT in finding their best starting XI before the World Cup.
