Ryan Reynolds may have just transferred some of his Deadpool energy to Wrexham AFC. After a slow start to the season, it finally seems like the Welsh soccer club is back on track. However, a famous fan recently raised a minor problem. Getting a ticket to a Wrexham game is becoming as difficult as getting a ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

The Red Dragons may have been trounced by MK Dons, but still showed enough grit and spirit and managed to score three in their season opener. Nevertheless, the Welsh club managed to secure their first victory of the season in the EFL League Two against Walsall last night.

Getting tickets to watch Wrexham is becoming more and more cumbersome each season; claimed former Olympian and childhood Wrexham fan, Gareth Evans. The Anglesey-born Welsh weightlifter is no stranger to the Racecourse Stadium and has been supporting the club since 1994. Speaking to the Athletic, Evans said, “It’s become so hard to get tickets.”

“Not so long ago, I could just drive down or get the train and pay on the day. That was perfect with training, competition and so on meaning I couldn’t go every week. Now, obviously, things have changed. I retired last year and things were just starting to hot up ticket-wise. I managed to get to seven games last season and I got a ticket for MK Dons,” he added.

Apart from the recent hardships of ticket availability, it’s certain that Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have transformed Wrexham into a global name,  making the club one of the most followed and watched teams in English soccer’s lower divisions.

For Evans, this is in his veins. The former Olympian won gold for Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the men’s 69kg weightlifting event becoming a household name in the region. And with antics such as donning a Wrexham jersey to address the media after winning gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, it’s safe to say that he is a die-hard Wrexham AFC fan and has made his love for his boyhood club known all around the world.

Wrexham has managed to bounce back from a loss and draw in their opening two EFL League Two games to beat Walsall 4-2 in a six-goal thriller. William Boyle, Ollie Palmer, Jake Bickerstaff, and Elliot Lee all got on the scoresheet for the Red Dragons as the club aimed to push for another qualification this season.

At the moment, it’s only three games into the new EFL League Two 2023/24 season and Wrexham have made a slow start but has plenty of games left in the season in their bid to qualify for EFL League One come next year.
