Why would Pochettino snub Messi's Inter Miami for his first MLS game? What's your take?

Mauricio Pochettino has plenty to catch up on now that he’s staying in the United States. Over the next two years, the Argentinian tactician is expected to learn the ways of the country and its history during his free time. While he may have already started with his preparations, it seems Pochettino knows exactly what he’ll be doing first!

When in America, what better way there is to enjoy by catching up with its prime domestic competition? Major League Soccer? Considered a promising entertaining sphere of the beautiful game, the former Tottenham manager has vocally shared that he’ll be watching a few of the live matches.

But the team that he wishes to see would surprise many. In an interview, while expressing his admiration for St. Louis, a Missouri-based city, Pochettino said, “I am aware of the big soccer history of St. Louis and its impact on the National Team, so the new members of the staff are looking forward to visiting the city for ourselves and experiencing the atmosphere at the stadium.”

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss knows the city has a special connection. A connection that is forged not just with the beautiful game but with the Men’s National Team. Many revered players who hailed from the ranks of City SC have made their way into the national setup. While this is something that the 52-year-old has seen and heard on paper, he wants to get a firsthand experience of watching the club live in action.

So expect the new USMNT boss to attend a few of the St. Louis games. However, with this admission, the Argentine has surely ruffled the feathers of a few. It subtly hints that he holds admiration for the City SC. It also means that the former Chelsea boss has also snubbed some remarkable MLS teams in the process, like the star-studded Inter Miami, where his former disciple Lionel Messi plays.

Even LAFC, where Hugo Lloris, another trusted deputy of Pochettino currently plays, was also snubbed. Moreover, St. Louis is currently sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference. However, there’s yet another completely different reason why Pochettino is keen to watch the MLS.

Mauricio Pochettino is lucky he has two years of time to select the perfect squad. While acknowledging he’s friends with many MLS coaches, Pochettino will take help from them to recognize talented players and work with them. “We are going to pay attention to identifying the talent. Of course, the door is open for all the players that want to be with us,” concluded the Argentine. Perhaps St. Louis looks to be the first stop where he’ll find a fresh cream of players.
