Back in 2019, when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney decided to invest in Wrexham, soccer pundits all around the world had doubts. These megastars have spent the last couple of years proving them wrong. Last year, the team narrowly missed promotion. A fact, they seemingly used to fuel themselves with anger and bring havoc to the opponents in the National League.
This season was record-breaking, from Wrexham. Sitting at the top with 110 points, this is the most points any team has generated in a single season in the top 5 tiers of English soccer. With this unrelenting, sheer dominance, Wrexham is ready to say its farewell to the National League as they get ready for EFL League 2.
During the match, sitting with Rob McElhenney and ‘the Ant-Man’ Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds couldn’t hold back his tears. He has worked hard on the team in a time everybody doubted him, and now he not only got the team’s success, he also got a fairy tale of a story for the upcoming season of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Ryan Reynolds’ thoughts on Wrexham promoting
In the very first minute against Boreham Wood, Wrexham conceded a goal. That was a nightmare for fans, players, and owners. They must have had flashbacks from the previous season. Kudos to the manager, Phil Parkinson, as he had prepared the players to react calmly.
Everything I own smells like champagne, beer and grass. I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing. This town and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @Wrexham_AFC ⚔️🏴⚔️ pic.twitter.com/cxpVRUpkLq

Just 14 minutes later, Elliot Lee scored the equalizer for the Red Dragons. In the second half, Paul Mullin demonstrated why he is the most feared goal scorer in the lower tier of soccer. By the time the final whistle came off, the score was 3-1 for Wrexham and they have cemented the fate of not only themselves but Notts County as well.
Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to share his reactions to the match. He wrote, “Everything I own smells like champagne, beer, and grass. I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing. This town and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @Wrexham_AFC.” Yesterday he proved one of the statements he made months back.
