The National Governors’ Association statement has opened the pandora’s box for certain Japanese officials. According to reports from Japanese media outlet Asahi, the governors of Nagasaki and Gunma Prefecture were not present at the association’s planned meeting on the 25-26th of July.

Notably, Oishi is said to have sent Deputy Governor Yuko Baba to take his place during the meeting. They have reported that Oishi, absent on the 25th, was present in Tokyo to visit the Finance and Land Ministry to request budget allocations for road maintenance in his prefecture. Following his visit, he traveled to Osaka to watch a friendly soccer game between Cristiano Ronaldo-led Al Nassr and PSG.

The matter has seen the general populace demand Oishi’s resignation for neglecting his duties towards his prefecture. Many believe the official was abusing his position as the Governor and should have been present for the meeting. However, some people consider that Oishi’s lapse pales in comparison to some of the recent Japanese political scandals.
