Rivalries between soccer stars often make headlines. Competitive spirits fuel them and on a few occasions, personal issues. One such feud that made headlines is between one of the USWNT’s most celebrated stars Megan Rapinoe and former US president Donald Trump.
Who can forget the war of words between the two during and after FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019? Rapinoe has been an outspoken figure for years. The soccer star never held herself back in sharing her views at every possible stage. The difference in idealities between Rapinoe and Trump has always been the problem. And the USWNT’s disappointing result has led to Trump take a dig.

Rapinoe hails from a conservative family. Her parents raised her with equality lessons. And it bemuses the OL Reign forward. She doesn’t understand the conservative stance of her parents, often leading to disagreements between them. Speaking to the Guardian in 2019, she said her parents don’t want her life to be difficult.

As an openly queer soccer star, Rapinoe stood against discrimination and called out her dad for voting for Trump. The equal pay champion refused the invitation from Trump ahead of the 2019 World Cup to visit the White House. Trump fired back at her in a tweet, asking her to win first before talking. The two exchanged a series of tweets taking digs at each other.

Meanwhile, with the nation having a mixed response to the USWNT’s disappointing loss to Sweden, Trump has taken a sly dig. In a social media post on Truth Social App, he wrote, “The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the US Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden.”

“Many of our players were openly hostile to America- No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close. WOKE EQUALS FAILURE,” he added. But the last sentence of his post caught the eye of the fans. Taking a dig at Rapinoe, who missed a crucial penalty, the former president wrote, “Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA.”
