Manchester United has seen some of the best players in the world play through their ranks. Soccer icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham are among those who have donned the club’s prestigious colors. Like every Manchester United fan, the team’s newest stakeholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, also had a hero of his own. The business tycoon opened up on his favorite Red Devils star in an interview, surprisingly ditching both CR7 and Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United owner was present at Old Trafford earlier today as the team prepares to take on Tottenham Hotspur. Ratcliffe, during his brief visit, interacted with the media, opening up on his move to buy a stake in the club.

Manchester United boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe revealed his favorite player from the club during his latest visit to Old Trafford. While many were expecting the INEOS owner to name a recent star, Ratcliffe took fans down memory lane, naming club legend Eric Cantona as his favorite player.

Cantona’s name does not seem like a big surprise as the player led the charge at Old Trafford from 1992 to 1997. During his time at the club, the French icon established himself as one of the club’s legends, bagging 82 goals in his 182 appearances.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to be in attendance tonight as the Red Devils host Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham at home. United have struggled to find form this season and will look to leave a good first impression on their new owner.

Jim Ratcliffe speaks on his decision to invest in Manchester United

The INEOS owner completed his takeover of Manchester United in December 2023, successfully purchasing 25% of the club’s stakes. Ratcliffe, while talking to the journalists, opened up on his joy at his decision to obtain a minority share in the club. “Yes. I have done a few exciting things, but this caps it all. There’s no question about that. It’s the first match for me since we got here. I am very excited to be here. It’s a big match. We normally do well against Spurs.”
