Every avid soccer fan is aware of Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy at Manchester United. Despite his bitter exit last year, the player still holds the club in high regard, shaped by his impactful first spell decades ago. It would be hard to see him play for any other Premier League club, right? Well, that sentiment remains steadfast in Ronaldo to this day, as when a boxing promoter playfully teased him about signing for Arsenal, the soccer icon found himself in fits of laughter.

The laughter came during the ongoing Saudi Arabia boxing event, ‘Day of Reckoning: Fight Night at Kingdom Arena.’ Aside from the typical audience, Ronaldo also arrived to grace the audience spot.

During the prestigious boxing event in Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo was sitting in the front row alongside English boxing manager and promoter Frank Warren, Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh, and sports minister Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal. Interestingly, as the camera was individually panning the front row, Ronaldo showed a big thumbs up, but Warren had other plans. The Englishman pointed towards Ronaldo and joked, “He’s signing for Arsenal.” After hearing this, Ronaldo joyfully laughed.

This is indeed quite an intriguing and obvious response from Ronaldo. Notably, English commentator Piers Morgan had earlier suggested Arsenal sign Ronaldo after he had parted ways with the Red Devils. However, the 38-year-old eventually moved to Al Nassr, which led Morgan to slam the Gunners, insisting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would have been a great addition and guided Mikel Arteta’s ‘over the line.’ In fact, Morgan revealed that Ronaldo himself was keen to don the Arsenal jersey.

CR7 was ‘keen’ to join Arsenal before moving to Al Nassr

Ironically, Ronaldo was earlier linked with a move to Arsenal and was even open to moving to Emirates Stadium. This was further fueled by Morgan, who is also a fellow Gunner supporter. He said, “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do btw – we would have won the League.”

Morgan further heaped praise on Ronaldo, insisting the player knows how to win trophies and score goals. Unfortunately, Arsenal let the opportunity to sign CR7 slip away as they found themselves reflecting on what might have been, having surrendered a 12-point advantage to Manchester City in the 2022–23 title race.
