While getting promoted constantly, Wrexham would need to upgrade the quality of players. As they approach entry into English soccer’s third tier, they are expected to face tougher competition from powerful clubs. The Red Dragons have managed to put up with the pressure of League Two with grace, thanks to their top goalscorer this year, Paul Mullin. However, as things are moving quickly, is the striker’s place in the team in jeopardy? Former club manager and legend gives an interesting take on the superstar.

Arriving at a historical moment, Paul Mullin also has the potential for higher leagues, felt ex-star Andy Morrell. Speaking to Mirror Football, the former Wrexham striker expressed the possibility of the player choosing other clubs for this sake. Morrell said, “If you’re ready and you’re capable, then I hundred percent think he can play a higher level. He has not had the opportunity to yet because of the moves that he’s had,” claiming that he is ready for an upgrade now. And just in case, if it does not work out with Ryan Reynold’s side, the club could be forced to sell him.

Speaking further, Andy said, “There’s no reason for the way that they’re (Wrexham) going. But if they can’t get promoted this year, and then it’s a good one for him to go and try at League One, a decent club that is really pushing,” citing more open doors for the 29-year-old. Mullin arrived at Wrexham in the spring of 2021, bringing a lot of hope with him.

Despite winning the League Two Golden Boot in 2021 for Cambridge United, Mullin rejected a contract extension to sign for Wrexham. If not, the player would have been a prominent member of the Cambridge squad after helping them secure a promotion to League One. With such a sacrifice, would the forward leave break the bond with the club he loves?

What holds Paul Mullin at Wrexham?

Wrexham is more than just a workplace for Paul Mullin. The player has already notched 97 goals for the club, helping them win the National League last year with 38 goals. Nevertheless, apart from the club’s high aspirations, the proximity to his family made him choose the Welsh soccer club. And with impeccable bonding with the club and its regular success, it could be painful for both parties to let go of each other. For now, they will aim to guarantee their spot in the higher league.
