The US Women’s National Team kicked off an all-important year with the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup today. The team, led by Lindsay Horan, took on the 107-ranked Dominican Republic in the opener, with Alex Morgan on the bench. The USWNT completely dominated the game, scoring 2 goals in the first half and three in the second. It was Olivia Moultrie’s day, as she scored two goals, along with other goals by Lynn Williams, Jenna Nighswonger, and Alex Morgan. However, their performance received mixed reactions considering the ease of the fixture.
The USWNT entered the competition as the champions of the CONCACAF W Championship. However, they will be taking on tougher teams like Argentina and Mexico. Even though the result may not have excited some fans, many of them were impressed with the start.

It was Horan who recently said, “American soccer fans, most of them aren’t smart.” But the patriots are not going to stop talking about the team they love on X. Being more successful than the USMNT, the women’s team is getting immense support amid some advice too. Let’s look at the best of what fans have said.
This fan has glaring expectations from the team, expecting them to score 7! However, the team fell two short.

This supporter was not impressed with the variety of the goals. He felt both were the same.

A user had a note to explain his analysis. Having some contrasting thoughts, he felt that Moultrie and Korbin have been impressive but still wanted Williams and Midge out despite scoring.
Well, this 107th ranked team… looks 107th ranked. However, Moultrie/Korbin look the quality that they are. Good movement on & off ball, patience, small passes to exploit space. I need Mal/cat back asap, I can’t watch the lack of technical ability in Lynn/midge anymore.

Going into a major tournament without the likes of Megan Rapinoe and Ali Krieger, this fan is eager to see the next-gen excel.
Looking better overall and more confident for sure. Love to see these young players proving themselves.
