“She’s Not the Greatest” – After Donald Trump’s Scathing Remark, Megan Rapinoe Wasn’t USWNT’s ‘Anchor’, Claims American Historian

Whenever Megan Rapinoe speaks up, she has the magnetic effect to keep all ears open. Everyone listens keenly, and the USWNT soccer star is a polarizing figure. However, some sections of the soccer fraternity think differently. After missing the penalty at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, fans criticized her for smiling after the game. It prompted them to take over social media and troll her over her misses. One of the people to troll her was none other than the former president of the USA, Donald Trump. 

Everyone knows the intense rivalry they share off the pitch due to various reasons. Trump took no time in giving it back to Rapinoe. And now, another famous historian has stepped into the limelight to give his take on Rapinoe. 

American historian trolls Megan Rapinoe after a shocking penalty miss!

Victor Davis Hanson is a prominent American historian and political commentator who voices his opinions on various issues. In a recent Apple podcast, Hanson explained, “So, she’s not the greatest soccer player in the world. She never was. Female. But she was pretty good. But she has been doing this for 20 years. So this idea that she is the anchor of the women’s soccer team. It’s just ridiculous. So she was a soccer player. And she played professional soccer for a variety of teams. And I can remember back in 2016, 2012, when she was, playing in the World Cup. Okay. That’s an athlete.” 

Hanson downplayed Rapinoe’s soccer talents by stating she was far from the best in the world. He also failed to acknowledge her position on the team, as Rapinoe is one of the famous names on the team. Yet, Victor failed to understand her as an activist and only respected her for the performances showcased earlier. Hanson continued, “She wouldn’t be on that team competitively at that age. And what she’s done, recently, if she wasn’t famous. She’s the one who brings attention to women’s soccer.”

Thus, Hanson did not hold back on his comments. He resumed, “And all she could say when she laughed for a second, a fan came up to her not too long ago and she pushed him away. All she could say after laughing and all she could say when she looked back on her career was, Did the team win the World Cup? No! It was fighting for equality and making sure that women get the same pay and equal work for equal pay. Well, that’s not how capitalism works in sports.”

Donald Trump takes no prisoners!

After the loss, Trump commented on social media, “Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA.” The USWNT missed out on the chance to achieve a three-peat, leaving fans disheartened. It intensified when Rapinoe appeared to smile after the miss, leaving fans in hysterics. 

Thus, she is one of the most polarising athletes in the world, and her stance on various issues is heard with much interest. Although everyone is subjected to opinions, Rapinoe leaves no stone unturned. Do you think the historian was right to blame her?
