“She Didn’t Trust Her”- Shakira Was Considered “An Intruder” by Gerard Pique’s Mother Who Covered Up Her Son’s Infidelity

Shakira and Gerard Pique have been in the public eye ever since the drama that was imbued after the couple announced their split last June. While fans were hoping for the couple to work things out, it was reported that Pique had been unfaithful to Shakira with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.

Besides the heartbreak, this split has brought another issue to the surface, which relates to the Colombian singer’s relationship with her ex-mother-in-law Montserrat Bernabeu. Shakira and Pique first announced the start of their relationship towards the start of the year 2011.

While many around the world witnessed the pair’s both subtle and drastic displays of love and affection, there was one woman who was much less keen on their union – Pique’s mother, Montserrat Bernabeu.

Montserrat Bernabeu had different sentiments about the couple’s relationship, seeing it as nothing less than an unwanted intrusion. Things had been off to a bad start for Shakira then. A close source to the family noted that Pique’s mother considered Shakira “an intruder” in their family due to her background.

“We are talking about very closed environments. For many families in the city, if you are from Madrid you are already an intruder. Imagine if you are from Colombia! For ‘Montse’ it was a shock,” sources revealed. “She saw her from the beginning as an intruder. A fish out of water”.

There were many other reasons for this sentiment that she shared. “[Montserrat] was bothered by everything about her: that she was 10 years older than her son, that she was a singer, no matter how successful she was, that she was not Catalan or at least from a recognizable family. It is a very closed circle and very classist,” the sources said.

They further revealed that “She (Montserrat Bernabeu) didn’t trust her (Shakira). She saw her as one more whim of her son. Over time, she got used to the idea”. But over the years, Bernabeu was able to come to terms with the situation. However,  it is evident that the prejudice held against Shakira unfortunately still remains as Pique’s mother reportedly kept Shakira in the dark about her son’s infidelity.

Concerns and backlash continue to mount regarding news of Gerard Pique’s affair with 24-year-old Spaniard, Clara Chia Marti. To make matters worse, reports surfaced that Pique’s mother allegedly knew of her son’s infidelity and helped him conceal it from his partner, Shakira.

It is believed that Pique and Chia were hidden in Pique’s mother’s house during their affair. Pique’s mother even harbored the secret from participating partner Shakira. Unsurprisingly, the revelation seemingly caused significant discord and further strained the relationships between both parties.
