With her decision, Rapinoe signals the end of an era in women’s soccer and bids farewell to a career that has left an indelible mark on the sport. While she may have plans sorted for life after soccer, her focus is currently on the World Cup. Many didn’t agree with her decision, but Morgan believes Rapinoe made the right choice.

When asked about the forward’s retirement, she said, “I’m, you know, just happy for her that she wants this last year to end on a high note and she’s doing it her way, and I think that’s the most important thing. A lot of people who retire from soccer or sports in general don’t always get to it on their terms, and she’s able to do that and she deserves that.”

The San Diego Waves forward also said that many don’t get the opportunity to retire according to their own comfort. Hence, the 33-year-old is glad about the veteran’s decision.
