A lot is going on in women’s soccer. While soccer fanatics wait for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, shocking news came regarding one of the players of the USWNT camp. Yesterday, Megan Rapinoe announced her decision to retire after the World Cup. Likewise, one of her teammates revealed her plans for the prestigious tournament.
The American women’s soccer icon will be playing her final campaign. While the news came as a shock to everyone, Rapinoe’s friend and national teammate, Alex Morgan, backed her decision. Aside from that, she also revealed the veteran’s ambitions for the tournament.

Alex Morgan reveals World Cup plans of Megan Rapinoe
With her decision, Rapinoe signals the end of an era in women’s soccer and bids farewell to a career that has left an indelible mark on the sport. While she may have plans sorted for life after soccer, her focus is currently on the World Cup. Many didn’t agree with her decision, but Morgan believes Rapinoe made the right choice.
When asked about the forward’s retirement, she said, “I’m, you know, just happy for her that she wants this last year to end on a high note and she’s doing it her way, and I think that’s the most important thing. A lot of people who retire from soccer or sports in general don’t always get to it on their terms, and she’s able to do that and she deserves that.”

Morgan is happy for her best friend and believes she is doing it the right way. She insisted that Rapinoe is keen to end the World Cup on a high note. The San Diego Waves forward also said that many don’t get the opportunity to retire according to their own comfort. Hence, the 33-year-old is glad about the veteran’s decision.
As for the World Cup, it seems it is not only a crucial campaign for the USWNT but also for Rapinoe as well. Likewise, Morgan seems confident of her chances in the upcoming tournament.
