It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar, who was on a break after winning the Euro with Portugal, saved the day for his former teammate Danny Simpson.

In a recent podcast, Danny Simpson revealed how Cristiano Ronaldo assisted him off the pitch. Simpson, who played with Ronaldo at Manchester United during the 2007-08 season, was on a date with a former Miss California when things went south.

Simpson, who signed for Leicester City at the time, was in Los Angeles for a preseason tour. He decided to sneak out of the team hotel to attend a date with a former Miss California. Simpson described the date going awfully. However, that changed when the 5x Ballon d’Or winner showed up.

How Ronaldo saved Simpson’s date

“It wasn’t going great (the date), and then I got a tap on my shoulder,” said Simpson. “I’ve looked up, and it’s only Ronaldo! So he’s gone ‘Simmo!’ and I’ve gone ‘ah, Ronnie!’ Simpson then recalls hugging and chatting with the Al-Nassr striker.

For the date, this was a turning point. Then Simpson revealed his date recognizing Ronaldo. He said: “I’ve sat back down and she’s gone ‘how do you know Ronaldo?’ Simpson further added, “And I just played it down like it was nothing ‘ah, I used to play with him’, and from that second, she completely changed”.
