One cannot deny Sporting CP’s rich history of Hall of Fame players. From Luis Figo to Cristiano Ronaldo, countless icons have started their journeys at the Lisbon-based club. While Viktor Gyokeres didn’t begin his career with the Lions, the striker is certainly proud to be where he can give his ‘best‘, following in the footsteps of many legendary players who made their mark on the beautiful game.
Since arriving at Sporting last summer, the Swedish international has tallied 63 goals and 19 assists in just 66 games, showing signs of becoming one of the best strikers in the world. It’s no wonder fans are drawing parallels with legendary players like Figo and Ronaldo. However, Gyökeres isn’t letting the praise go to his head. Instead, he prefers to stay focused on the present.
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Figo started their careers at Sporting Lisbon and have had incredible success. You look at players like that who have been here, but I try not to compare myself to them. I just want to be myself and give my best every day when I go to training and when we play,” concluded Gyokeres.

Playing it safe! We get it, which in fact, is the best of what he can do. If you look at his previous seasons, Gyokeres has put up average numbers. In fact, among all the clubs he had played for throughout his career including Sweden’s Brommapojkarna, Germany’s FC St. Pauli, and England’s Championship sides Brighton, Swansea, and Coventry, Gyokeres has scored the highest for Sporting CP, that too, in fewer games.
Perhaps if he stays a bit longer at Sporting, the talented goalscorer can attain the status of club legend. However, from the looks of his current goal-scoring antics, we hardly feel that’s the option left for him. Then again, there’s one way he can do something reminiscent to get into the worlds of Ronaldos and Figos.
How Viktor Gyokeres can become the Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United?

Naturally, there’s speculation that a few Sporting CP stars might follow Ruben Amorim to Manchester United, as he’s set to join the Red Devils in a few days. Among the possibilities is Viktor Gyökeres, who is reportedly on United’s radar. While Amorim has previously dismissed the idea of raiding Sporting in the upcoming transfer window, and Gyökeres himself has downplayed any talk of a move to England, a hypothetical transfer to United could be a win-win for both parties.
Given the strong chemistry Amorim has already established with Gyökeres, the striker could replicate his impressive goal-scoring feats at United, just as he has done for Sporting. This would not only help United get back on track but also give their fanbase a reliable new goal-scorer they can truly count on. Success at United could even allow Viktor Gyökeres to build a legacy similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. For now, though, let’s watch him continue his ascent at Sporting Lisbon.
