Linking up with Wrexham AFC seems to be the new trend for footballers around the world. Reports of former players like Gareth Bale and Robson-Kanu planning to come out of retirement and play for them were going on.

This time, a former Premier League player is hoping to get a window with The Reds. Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke expressed his interest in joining Ryan Reynold’s Wrexham AFC.

Yorke got an opportunity to start off his coaching career by managing Macarthur Football Club based in Sydney, Australia. His tenure at the club was not a long one, but one may argue that it was definitely not a below-average one. In an interview with OLBG.com, Yorke said he is eager to come back to the industry.

“I’m very passionate about trying to get back in the industry. If Wrexham approached me, I’d consider it. There’s a lot of hype around the club…if the opportunity presents itself, then it’s a serious and exciting gig,” Yorke said.

He won the Australia Cup 2022 with The Bulls, but later on, he moved out of the contract by a mutual agreement. The contract with the club did not complete its tenure as Yorke made some strong remarks calling the team ‘Pub Team.’  This certainly did not go well with the team, staff, and management which led to the separation.

The veteran from Trinidad and Tobago scored 123 goals in the Premier League while playing for 5 teams. He won multiple league titles along with a treble for Manchester United. Yorke also went to play for Sydney FC making him accustomed to soccer in Australia.

Parkinson’s aim is to turn the transfer tables

The promotion to the English Football League came after 15 years of absence in the tournament. The club’s coach Phil Parkinson is obviously one of the main reasons for the latest success. Phil joined Wrexham in June 2021 and won National League Manager of the Month in March 2022 which also led them to the trophy victory in May this year.

But the transfers for Wrexham AFC have not progressed the way they would have liked. With promotion to a higher tier, you would expect teams to go a bit more proactively in the market. Also, the English manager feels that the move to to higher league tier got a bit more physical and the team needs to adapt to it.

Wrexham are sitting 16th on the table with just one win in the current league. Their next match is against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon. A win here will move them a bit higher on the ladder which they will hope for.

Nonetheless, Ryan Reynolds and his co-owner would not think much about a change in manager at this stage. Parkinson’s enterprising journey with the club until this stage, the owners would not mind waiting and watching the future unfold.
