It’s always ecstatic to be in a win-win situation. Former Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero put himself in such a position that the result of today’s FA Cup final only benefited him more than disappointing him. Any player will not cheer his team losing, but Aguero earned a five-figure profit after his former team lost today’s game against Manchester United.
According to the Argentine’s recent Instagram post, Aguero is estimated to have won $15,500 with his bets on today’s fixture. However, it wasn’t about who would win the game, but how many goals would be scored. Aguero placed a $10,000 bet that at least 3 goals or more would be scored today, hence the Argentine was cheering for more goals with the caption, “A final? Goals, goals, goals … 😎” And to his fortune, the anticipation turned out to be perfect with exactly 3 goals being scored in the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Aguero is no stranger to placing bets. The Argentine placed a similar bet during the FIFA Club World Cup in December and also on Lionel Messi winning the Golden Ball during the 2022 World Cup. But despite his predictions coming true, Aguero would have expected the goals to come from the Premier League winners.
The 35-year-old is the all-time leading goalscorer for Manchester City scoring 260 times and he also won 5 league titles apart from an FA Cup and 6 English League Cup trophies. Aguero’s last-minute finish in May 2012 initiated City’s dominance in English soccer. The goal against Queens Park Rangers won City their first Premier League title in 44 years beating the same Manchester rivals on goal difference. But today, it was all about the 13-time PL winners.

Coming to the game, Manchester City conceded 2 goals in the first 40 minutes to Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo’s strikes. From then, the 2023 champions faced a significant hurdle as Manchester United adopted a defensive strategy, sitting back and frustrating their attacking play. The Sky Blues then came back to score in the 87th minute with the game ending 2-1 and leaving the FA Cup title to the Red Devils. But it took a cool maneuvering ball from Jeremy Doku to get past the opponent’s defense which resulted in 3 goals for the match.
Overall, United may have lost last year’s final to Pep Guardiola and co. after a record-breaking goal from Ilkay Gundogan. But now they have come back to haunt the treble-winners with a similar scoreline as last year but the opposite way. Until both face off against each other in the Community Shield on the 10th of August, fans will be eagerly waiting for the next season to kick off.
