There are several factors behind this meteoric rise in viewership and fans. One of those reasons is the fame-loaded ownership groups of NWSL. The most notable group is the ownership team of Angel City FC. It has Natalie Portman, Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian, and countless others. This group is doing so much for women’s soccer after grouping so many fan bases.

Serena Williams talks about equal pay

After the 2019 triumph of the USWNT in the FIFA World Cup, many stars came forward to talk about the ongoing equal pay battle of the USWNT against the US Soccer Federation. Tennis legend Billie Jean King took to Twitter to congratulate the back-to-back winners of the FIFA WC.

Billie Jean King talked about how dominant that team had been to that point and how they deserved to be paid according to their performance. She reminded everybody that USWNT was probably the most dominant women’s team in any sport.

This tweet of the legend had got the eyes of another tennis legend, Serena Williams. She replied to the tweet by saying her congratulations and talking about what Billie Jean King had already talked about. She wrote, “Congrats team USA! Billie says it is best here! So happy for each one of you and so proud.

When Alexis Ohanian talked about USWNT and USMNT

Around a few months before Serena talked about the USWNT domination, her husband Alexis had already talked about how USMNT doesn’t have the system in place to scout out the best talent. He compared both teams and wrote an eye-opener of a Tweet chain.

He wrote, “Our US Men’s Soccer team has suffered from a weak system that struggles to identify & develop talent at schooling age… OTOH, women’s soccer can soak up amazing women athletes. And develop each of their stars using innovative models like what streamers are doing for esports.
