According to sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs, the Saudi Pro League has agreed to a change in rule for the 2024/25 season. In line with the new rule, Saudi teams will have 25 players on their roster, with an increase within the foreign player restriction to 10.

Currently, the restriction on international players that a team can register is only eight. The implementation of this rule presented challenges for Saudi clubs in attracting players from different countries. However, it is also important to note that while teams can register ten international players, only eight of them can participate per match.

This new rule will help prevent the recurrence of scenarios similar to that of Vincent Aboubakar. It forced the Cameroonian striker to depart from Al Nassr prematurely because of reaching the limit of eight players following the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo. Now the question arises as to which players Al Nassr targets.

According to reports, Al Nassr is still vying to sign Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, as well as Manchester United’s midfielder and Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate Casemiro. The need for this move comes as a result of Luis Castro’s dissatisfaction with Seko Fofana’s performance.

Fofana’s underwhelming display has raised the need for a replacement. It is highly speculated that Al Nassr will make a firm push to sign both midfielders in January. However, acquiring such high-profile players will probably come at a significant cost for The Knights of Najd.
