Throughout this summer, the majority of renowned stars followed in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo. Perhaps in the future as well, the players will look to join the mass exodus to Saudi Arabia. But when an ex-world champion was asked about moving to the Middle East, he declined and instead revealed his intention to follow the path of Ronaldo’s arch-rival, Lionel Messi.

Earlier, when a player reached his prime, they either moved to North or South American clubs or played in Asia. However, the entrance of Saudi Arabia has completely changed the course of the transfer market.

Over the years, the MLS has attracted big names from Europe. As of today, things have slightly changed as Roshan Saudi League seems to have taken the American league’s place. Despite the influence of oil money, 2018 World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann will swiftly reject any club of Saudi in favor of moving to the MLS.

This comes after the Frenchman was recently asked if he ever saw himself playing in the Gulf country. The Atletico Madrid man replied, “Me in Saudi? I have a family, 3 children, it’s an important decision. My priority remains as a player to come to MLS.” While insisting it is an important decision not only for him but for his family, he underlined his priority to play in the MLS.

Indeed, it is a huge claim from the former Barcelona man. Currently, Griezmann has a contract with Rojiblancos until 2026. Perhaps after his contract ends, the latter may start looking to find his ideal MLS place. He may even move to America before his contract ends. Nevertheless, for now, the striker must be looking to spend time with Atletico.

The 36-year-old has played a pivotal role for the Miami-based club, guiding them to their first-ever silverware. It is a transformation that seemed implausible considering their previous long streak without a win in the MLS. In contrast, while Ronaldo may have secured his own trophy this season and continues to score goals, it’s Messi’s presence in the United States that has captured the fans’ attention.
