The soccer universe is currently witnessing one of the worst disasters in a long time. As of yesterday, a powerful earthquake has shattered thousands of homes across Turkey and Syria. During this disaster, Hatay City has been most severely affected. It’s important to remember that Hatay is home to Hatayspor, a soccer club in Turkey. Quite a few soccer stars currently playing in the country were seriously affected by this disaster.

While the rescue missions are still on, a Canadian soccer star has just thankfully confirmed his safety via an Instagram story.

Canadian soccer star is safe from the earthquake!

Soccer fans from all across the world were relieved after Canadian soccer star, Sam Adekugbe, confirmed to his fans that he is okay. Adekugbe posted an Instagram story with a message to his fans. He wrote, “May God have mercy on us”, along with a ‘heartbreaking’ emoji. Prior to this, Christian Atsu was also missing since the earthquake hit Hatay.

After a few hours, news emerged that the authorities successfully rescued Atsu from under the rubble. The former Chelsea and Newcastle soccer star reportedly suffered moderate injuries to his right foot. He also complained that he was finding it difficult to breathe. However, the soccer star is now safe and receiving medical care in the hospital.

Both of Atsu’s former clubs, Newcastle and Chelsea, posted on Twitter that they were ‘praying’ for their ex-player before the authorities rescued him. The Turkish soccer club, Malatyaspor’s second goalkeeper was reportedly found under the rubble. The authorities managed to rescue his wife, and she is out of danger. The unfortunate news regarding Ahmet Turkaslan, however, devastated the soccer universe.

The earthquake has shaken Syria and Turkey entirely. The authorities and rescue teams still cannot find thousands of people from under the rubble.

The tragic after-effects of the earthquake

The rescue teams in Syria and Turkey are terribly running against time. According to CNN, more than 4300 people have died due to the magnitude of the earthquake. The earthquake has brutally ripped through both Turkey and Syria, severally affecting both sides of the border. The residents reportedly felt the earthquake coming at about 4 am.

A couple of surrounding countries have also offered their help and support. Yesterday’s earthquake is reportedly the deadliest one to hit Turkey for the first time since 1939. Back then, more than 30,000 people were victims due to the unfortunate freak incident. However, the times are much better now, and people from all around the world genuinely hope that these rescuers can save as many people as possible.
