Pique retired from professional soccer last year. In the process, he gave up millions, and Barcelona was due to pay him. The Kings League creator revealed it in a recent interview. He left the club during difficult times. Blaugrana has been in a financial mess for a few years and was eager to reduce the salary budget.
The former Spanish defender responded and decided to end his career, sacrificing the due wages. And now he divulged what he would have done if any Saudi Arabian club offered him a lucrative salary.

It was either Barcelona or nothing for Gerard Pique
Gerard Pique spoke to the Spanish media outlet Cadena SER recently. He got a question regarding Saudi Arabia. The Barcelona legend replied, “They didn’t call me in Saudi Arabia, and I wouldn’t have gone there either. I always said that the club of my life was Barça and that I would then retire.”

“It was very clear to me; football was linked to Barça. Doing things for money is not my way of looking at things. They invest, I understand that they also invest in their image. The world of football is changing,” Pique added. However, it was complete opposite of Lionel Messi. Recently Barcelona president said that Messi will be on Barcelona payroll until 2025, despite not playing for them.

Saudi Arabia is in the middle of a transition in soccer. One of the world’s enormous sovereign funds, PIF, has taken over four crucial clubs. They are offering massive salaries to lure superstars to change the dynamics of Saudi soccer. So far, many big names have accepted offers from Roshn Saudi League clubs, and they are working on many more deals.
The superstars like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Marcelo Brozovic, Jota, Kalidou Koulibaly, Eduardo Mendy, and Roberto Firmino have joined different clubs in the country. Meanwhile, Gerard Pique has different views, and it was only Barcelona for him.
