Ryan Reynolds' passion for Wrexham AFC—Is this the kind of dedication we need in sports?

One can say that Wrexham AFC has become a drug of Ryan Reynolds. Once stopped his acting work just to watch the team in action, the Hollywood superstar is now truly addicted to his beloved Welsh club. In fact, his obsession with the Red Dragons continues to grow each day as he now acknowledges missing the Racecourse Ground, despite attending the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024.

Phil Parkinson and Co. are yet to cut the ribbon on the new season as they prepare for their fresh League One campaign. Meanwhile, Reynolds is currently off his Wrexham board chair and focused on the shoot of Deadpool & Wolverine in Germany. While in town, Reynolds, alongside co-actor, Hugh Jackman decided to attend the recent Euro quarter-final clash between the Netherlands and Turkey, which the Dutch side had won 2-1. The glimpses were shared by Jackman on Instagram with the caption “We’re just getting started Berlin!”

He shared a carousal of 5 pictures of his time in Berlin so far, with the last three clicks of him and Reynolds being at the Olympiastadion Berlin stadium as well. A snap of the actors being invited to the touchline for a pre-match interview was also posted which Reynolds reshared on his Instagram story. Interestingly, the Canadian-born also added a caption saying, “Homesick for STōK Cae Ras.”

Seems like an enthralling European fixture couldn’t entice Reynolds as he was rather missing his first love in soccer. The 47-year-old is rather yearning for his club to return for domestic action and misses the Wrexham crowd in the home stadium. While this may seem an awe moment to many, wait till you hear how this obsession in reality is an unhealthy one.

How does Ryan Reynolds’ obsession with Wrexham AFC create problems for others?

Last year, Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy revealed the difficulties he used to face with Ryan Reynolds while working just because of the Red Dragons. “His obsession with Wrexham, also by the way, the obsession of all of Wales with Ryan Reynolds is becoming problematic. Like, I’m trying to get us ready to shoot Deadpool, and he’s so distracted by this football team,” admitted Levy.

A testament to this claim can be seen in a similar incident while he was working on a shoot. The Deadpool star shared a photo of himself enjoying Wrexham’s 4-1 win over Crawley Town on April 10. He stood next to a camera crane, celebrating the win displayed on the big screen in the background, and wrote a caption: “Watching the Wrexham AFC at work: new level unlocked.” Obsession or problem, we leave it on you to decide.
