The transfer bonanza is about to conclude and soccer clubs are expected to run a riot. While most of the focus is on the elite leagues, English sub-tiers always have something entertaining for the fans. However, amid an overwhelming start to the 2024-25 campaign, Wrexham AFC faced another rejection is their aspirations to complete a formidable squad. Despite sound backing from the owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club has failed to sign a star attacking target who could have added to their purple patch.
According to reports, the Championship club Preston North End has turned down a bid for an Irish striker Will Keane. The report yesterday suggested that the Welsh club placed a request to hire Keane for a $988 thousand deal. But the English club refused to give in considering the player’s recent form and also the demand he is getting from other clubs like Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion. Wrexham had initially started slow with their acquisitions but have now grabbed quite a few members to replace their nine-player who were shown the way out.

Nevertheless, Keane would have been their most exciting signing if the Lilywhites had accepted a bid, but he’s too precious for them now. The club started off the latest campaign in a shaky way losing 2 of their first three games. Moreover, it was Keane who bailed them out in their last game scoring the sole winning goal against the Premier League relegated club Luton Town.
Rising through Manchester United’s youth ranks, he was a part of their squad in 2011 and 2016 with loan spells to multiple clubs including Preston during that phase. And with the club placed 18th in the Championships, Keane is expected to be more worthy than Wrexham estimates him to be but still has time in the market.

It was a slow lead-up to ELF’s League One for Phil Parkinson’s team after securing two consecutive promotions. Wrexham already faced failures to sign a few players with initial target Josh Magennis choosing Exeter City over the club. Further, they also missed a chance to sign former Luton Town striker John McAtee who joined Bolton Wanderers. Nevertheless, the clubs made it up by singing 7 players but all of them belong to the backline except for one. Hence the Red Dragons are looking to seal an attacker at the moment and could attempt an improved bid for Keane. Keane also had a fruitful previous season with 13 goals and three assists.
Moreover, reports suggest that Wrexham is aiming for Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith. After being sidelined recently, the Hollywood stars’ team sensed an opportunity to acquire him. Meanwhile, their ace forward Paul Mullin made his return to the squad after undergoing spine surgery and will need more attackers to support him. But surprisingly, the unit has already made an astounding start to the season, winning 2 out of their three games and are on #4 being unbeaten. However, as it is expected to get harder as it goes, can Wrexham add more to their offense? Let us know in the comments.
