Wrexham is no longer the big fish in the small pond. They will have to do their best to pull their squad to League One standards in the upcoming transfer window. While the side has been on a great run with two consecutive promotions, their newest challenge could be a different gravy. However, Phil Parkinson seems ready for the challenge with his scouting team picking up on three potential transfer targets.

According to reports, the Ryan Reynolds co-owned club has been in touch with ex-Wigan Athletic stars Stephen Humphrys, Josh Magennis, and Tom Pearce. All three have been released by Wigan ahead of the upcoming season. Tom Pearce could be a good signing for the club. The 26-year-old defender can bolster the squad while filling in for Ben Tozer who was released by the club at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Stephen Humphrys could be an apt backup option for strikers Paul Mullin and Stephen Fletcher.

It will be interesting to see if the club can land their targets before the start of the season. The Welsh side has also been surprisingly linked with Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy. Notably, Wrexham executive Humphrey Ker refused to rule out anything when enquired about the English striker.

Is Jamie Vardy to Wrexham just a pipedream for fans?

In all honesty, the Leicester City legend is unlikely to join Wrexham this season. While it could be a story for 2025, it surely won’t be the case come summer. Vardy was on fire as he helped the side bag the Championship title securing their expected comeback to the Premier League. Moreover, Leicester boss Enzo Maresca has been pleased with the striker and has hinted at a possible contract extension.

However, if things don’t work out between the club and Vardy, the player could be on his way to Wrexham. In his exclusive interview with SportBible, Wrexham executive Humphrey Ker commented on a move for Vardy stating, “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player. It’s not a name I’ve had mentioned inside the building before. But age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”

It will be interesting to see if Wrexham fans will be able to see the legendary striker at the Racecourse this season. However, it will be important for the club to focus on other signings to improve their squad. Wrexham is returning to League One after almost a two-decade wait and will look to start with style!
