Just three years into their investment, Wrexham AFC has bagged 2 promotions in 3 attempts. With the club now in League One, it seems like both Rob & Ryan have got the hang of soccer. The two Hollywood stars have made a massive statement this week, with the owners buying a minority stake in LIGA MX side Club Necaxa.

This has to be a big venture from the duo, considering the success they have had with Wrexham. According to reports, in an attempt to establish a good relationship with the Mexican club’s owners, the duo have sold a 5% stake in the Welsh club out of goodwill. While there has been no official confirmation of the buyer, Al Tylis and Sam Porter are likely candidates.

Al Tylis and his wife Sam Porter’s NX Football USA owns about 50% of Club Necaxa. Actress Eva Longoria, MLB star Justin Verlander, model Kate Upton, NFL player Odell Beckham Jr., and former German soccer player Mesut Özil are also key investors in the company. The deal could open new doors for both clubs, considering the two can now be considered a part of a single umbrella.

How does Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying a stake in Club Necaxa benefit Wrexham?

While many fans would think that buying stakes into a new club would distract the Wrexham owners, this could be a big boost for the Welsh club if done correctly. With both Wrexham and Club Necaxa now under multi-club ownership, the two teams can use this as a chance to boost themselves. With their Welsh counterparts a perfect source of publicity, the two clubs can arrange for friendly games during the pre-season.

Meanwhile, Wrexham, who just got promoted to League One, can use this as a chance to get some top players on loan from the Mexican side. Additionally, with both clubs backed by huge celebrity figures, Wrexham can use this as a chance to connect with a broader audience outside Europe. If done correctly, this has the potential to become a big sporting project.

Only time will tell how Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney use this as a chance to bring more eyeballs to the Welsh club. What are your thoughts on the Wrexham owners buying a minority stake in the LIGA MX side? Voice your thoughts in the comments below.
