Wrexham AFC is having the time of their life under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But beyond the euphoria, there have been moments of disappointment, as losses have punctuated their otherwise stellar run. These setbacks not only leave fans disheartened but also take a toll on the owners. Yet, Reynolds has revealed a humorous stress-coping mechanism employed by McElhenney, shedding light on how his fellow co-owner maintains the ‘best version‘ of himself even in the face of adversity.

On the occasion of Welcome to Wrexham Season 3 releasing on May 2, Collider’s editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub got the chance to have a brief chat with the Hollywood duo. When asked about handling the pressure, Reynolds said, “When we win, it’s gotta feel 20% better than anything I have ever felt in my life. And then when we lose, which god forbid doesn’t happen often thank god, but yeah, it’s a pretty bottomless pit of despair for a little while. Hard to dig yourself out.”

McElhenney, on the other hand, had a different perspective, “It’s a good teaching moment for my 13 and 12 YO’s because daddy has to go through a moment of sitting by himself, counting, and meditating so that I can be the best version of myself for the rest of the weekend.” However, as the It’s Always Sunny actor was talking about the positives of facing adversity, Reynolds cut him off and said, “When he [Rob] is feeling that kind of rage if the club happens to lose again, thankfully rare, he takes out on my kids.”

Interestingly, the owners aren’t alone as even their own stars endured significant ‘pain,’ just to achieve a second promotion.

Wrexham players were playing through ‘pain every game’ to achieve League Two promotion

Going up in League One was no easy feat, according to Andy Cannon. Recently, the Wrexham midfielder discussed the physical challenges endured by the Red Dragon stars. While acknowledging that all the lads were playing through ‘pain every game,’ Cannon himself felt discomfort going into each match.

“It’s very tough, and people on the outside don’t know the ins and outs, but we’re going into every game, and I’m not sure everyone’s 100% all the time,” he said. Yet, Cannon doesn’t view this as an excuse as he lauded his teammates’ ‘good mentality’ for giving their all. With a staggering 88 points from 46 games, Wrexham finished second.

Both the owners would be kicking their toes as they failed to win the league with a margin of 4 points, as Stockport County did the honors. Perhaps Reynolds and McElhenney can rally for it next season. Until then, the actor duo can improve on their stress management methods. What do you make of the revelations from the actor duo?
