It’s hard to sum up the contributions of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for Wrexham AFC since their takeover. The Welsh club has not just been basking in the glory of global recognition but also doing well on the financial front. While even today, ongoing efforts to bolster the club’s finances are in full swing, recent alleged actions of the owners have sparked allegations of greed and accusations of going against their very own “guiding principles.” However, Reynolds was quick to refute such indictments.

While the Deadpool actor’s Wrexham arrives fresh in League One, Tom Brady-owned Birmingham City is coming down from the Championship. This would see both of the actors’ teams face each other in the new season. However, The Mirror reported that both Reynolds and Brady potentially asked the Football League to schedule one of the two fixtures in the US to benefit from the ‘increased commercial opportunities.’ This article caught the eye of an infuriated Wrexham netizen who retweeted the Mirror story on X with a screenshot of all four essential principles that both Reynolds and McElhenney pledged to comply with when they became owners.

Additionally, the netizen also wrote, “Goes against every single one of the “guiding principles” you stated publicly before even buying the club. Let’s not start getting too greedy and breaking promises @VancityReynolds @RMcElhenney.” However, Reynolds, who often responds to his fans, did so again and clarified the story. The Canadian-born actor replied, “I agree. And that’s why there have been no talks.”

Reynolds himself poured cold water over the possibility of Wrexham playing one of its league matches abroad. Perhaps the actor knows how to work under limits while keeping in mind the fans’ sentiments. But hypothetically, even if this were to be true, their appeal would have been rejected.

Ryan Reynolds’ alleged dream to see Wrexham face Tom Brady’s Birmingham City was already a pipedream!

As per the report from the Daily Mail, it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady’s proposal to host the game between Wrexham and Birmingham in the United States was ultimately turned down by the English Football League (EFL) officials. This plan would have required overcoming several obstacles and likely faced significant backlash.

The challenges would have included long travel, quick schedule adjustments for the teams, and issues with timing and broadcaster agreements. Regardless, had the plan been approved, it would have turned out to be a historic occasion as the first official English league game held outside of England and Wales.

But looking at the initial response of ardent Wrexham fans seems like this is never going to happen. After all, it would be hard for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to do something at the cost of the guiding principles they had pledged to follow.
