While the celebrations continue among the Wrexham faithful, the club has started planning for the season ahead. Following a historic back-to-back promotion, the Red Dragons face their sternest challenge yet. As per manager, Phil Parkinson, League One is a ‘big test‘, owing to the big jump in quality from the EFL League Two. New challenges demand fresh personnel and per reports, Ryan Reynolds and co are planning to make a move for a player who outperformed Paul Mullin last season!
As per the RobRyanRed podcast, Wrexham is plotting a move for Macauley Langstaff, who plays for Notts County. This season, the Englishman scored 28 goals and is the leading goalscorer in League Two. He also has 4 more goals compared to Paul Mullin, who is second on the list. Notts County are 14th and won’t be getting promoted. Hence, a move to Wrexham would be tempting for the center forward. However, a transfer won’t be easy for Ryan Reynolds and co.
👀 Wrexham are reportedly plotting a summer move for Notts County forward Macauley Langstaff.
The 27-year-old was wanted by Wrexham last summer before Notts joined them in winning promotion.
Would require a club record deal.

It is believed that the transfer fee for a potential deal would eclipse the $440k paid for Ollie Palmer in 2022. To this date, this remains the most expensive incoming in the Welsh Club’s history. But, Macauley Langstaff is a player who was wanted by the Red Dragons previously. Moreover, as per manager Phil Parkinson, a good transfer window is necessary for the team to perform well in League One. Hence, there is optimism to believe that Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney would splash the cash.
But, speaking of cash, Wrexham has a well-defined budget for the upcoming transfer window. Will that suffice for the Red Dragons? Let’s find out.

The details on the official Wrexham website revealed that the club can spend 60% of their annual wage turnover in 2023–24 for next season. In 2023, the Welsh Dragons had registered slightly over $12 million for the same. Doing the math, Ryan Reynolds and management can spend around $7 million on the upcoming campaign. For a team competing in League One, this is a good budget.

Considering the $.5 million paid for Ollie Palmer, a budget of $7 million could help to revamp the squad. Currently, Wrexham has a good chunk of the squad over the age of 30 (10, to be precise). Even star striker Paul Mullin is approaching 30. Hence, Phil Parkinson and Ryan Reynolds will be planning to invest in younger talent this time around. Also, with the 3rd season of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary in plan, finances won’t be an issue anytime soon for the Welsh club.
