Wrexham AFC, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds, made a big scoop recently when they signed Ben Foster on Thursday. The former England international goalkeeper announced his retirement last year in September. He last played for Watford in the season 2021-22 and retired despite having offers from various clubs.

The move came after the club’s main goalkeeper Rob Lainton got injured. Lainton injured his knee ligament and will be out for six weeks. There were doubts over the form of the second-choice goalkeeper Mark Howard, as his mistakes cost the club points. Foster, who last played for Wrexham in 2005, will join the club until the end of the season.

Foster retired from professional soccer in September 2022. He had offers on a table from the Premier League club Newcastle United and MLS club Atlanta United. However, the former Manchester United goalkeeper turned down the offers from those clubs and now took a u-turn on his retirement decision to join Wrexham AFC.

It is a big scoop for the third-oldest soccer club. The experience of Foster will come in handy for the club in the last stretch of the season. Wrexham is striving for promotion this season and is three points clear of the nearest rival, Notts County, with a game in hand. The 39-year-old is determined to help the club get a promotion to League Two.
Vanarama National League winners automatically get promoted to League Two. Wrexham missed out on promotion last season after going out in the semi-final of the playoffs for promotion. They finished second in the league last season. It will be interesting to see how Foster’s experience comes in handy for the club at the business end of the season.
Foster rejoins the club after over 17 years

Foster last played for Wrexham in 2005. He was on loan for three months from Stoke City and made 21 appearances for the club in all competitions. The Welsh club was playing in League One then and got relegated to League Two at the end of the season 2004-05. Foster won the Football League Trophy with the club despite relegation.
Foster has made 536 appearances in his professional career so far. He also made eight appearances for the England national team in his career. Foster has played for top clubs like Manchester United, Watford, and West Bromwich Albion. Fans will hope for an excellent performance from the former England international and help the club get promoted.
