It was not the first nor the last time Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds had a brush with the beautiful game. Since joining forces with actor Rob McElhenney to become the co-owners of Wrexham AFC, not only have the duo become endearing figures amongst the fans of the team, but they have also grown to become well-versed in the sport.
However, it was not always the case. Reynolds himself joked about one of the early moments he shared with one of the sport’s most storied players, David Beckham.

During a match in May of last year, the Hollywood actor and his companion were present in the stands along with the legendary Beckham. With the match having been poorly in favor of the Wrexham team and them having been one goal down, hope suddenly sparked in the minds of the fans.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are owners of 5th division side Wrexham AFC 🏴 and were in attendance for their FA Trophy Final this past weekend.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Jack Hyde scored a header. Unfortunately, joy quickly turned into disheartening after it was revealed that Hyde had been caught offside. With the stadium silent, Reynolds and McElhenney only continued their cheerful celebration. The A-listers opened up about the moment during their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in August.
Reynolds admitted to the humiliation of the situation and added, “How humiliating… In fairness, nobody understands the offside rule. Please…”. To this, both agreed that only Beckham was the only one who was in the know. As Rob fondly recalled, “We were cheering. We looked over at Beckham. He was just shaking his head”.
It is not every day that two of the world’s most famous movie stars get a schooling on a sport’s major rule while David Beckham is present. Although it may have left them embarrassed, there can be no doubt that this valuable lesson has bettered their understanding of the soccer world. And this will forever remain an iconic moment in the Wrexham fan’s memory. Ryan Reynolds since has come a long way and has learned a lot.
Ryan Reynolds has learned a lot from his mistakes
Reynolds recently spoke about the inevitability of mistakes when investing in a new venture. He suggested that any missteps should be seen as learning experiences, and used to grow and develop. He shared how he’s “so grateful for all those mistakes because I was given an opportunity to learn from them and grow from them”.
Reynolds reinforced his message by stating “You got to be willing to suck at something before you can be really great at it”. It is evident that Reynolds is already looking at his new endeavor with optimism. And viewing any minor hiccups as an opportunity to improve, rather than roadblocks hindering progress.
