After their promotion to League One, Wrexham has been quite inactive on the transfer front. Manager Phil Parkinson publicly admitted the need for new signings. Yet, there has been no incoming at STōK Cae Ras despite all sorts of rumors. But, things could be about to pick up pace soon. As per reports, the Red Dragons have a lot to be excited about the latest update regarding their longstanding transfer target.

According to reports on X, Championship club Preston North End has failed in their bid to sign Marc Leonard. This is great news for Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham who admire the Brighton midfielder. Leonard who played for Northampton Town, was their POTY last season. A versatile player who can play in the defensive, central, and attacking midfield roles, Leonard had 5 goals and 6 assists last campaign. Unfortunately, signing him won’t be easy as the likes of Swansea City, Norwich City, Plymouth Argyle, and Sheffield United remain interested.

Leonard’s loan spell at Northampton is set to expire in June. Following this, he is set to return to the Amex Stadium. Yet, it remains to be seen whether Roberto De Zerbi has any plans for the midfielder. Having made his professional debut in 01, Leonard has made just 2 appearances for the Seagulls. Hence, a permanent transfer or another loan could be a possibility.

Despite interest from the championship clubs, it was previously reported that Wrexham was the leading contender for Leonard. It is unlikely that the situation has changed much. Regardless, in addition to Leonard, Phil Parkinson has other midfielders on his wanted list as well.
