Re-building Wrexham AFC from scratch remains a major highlight in the lives of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Hollywood superstars went all in just to get their side across the line. However, the actors are looking to expand their ownership profile as they are now poised to take on the leadership roles at Mexican side Club NecaxaIn fact, the latest acquisition in their portfolio stands a chance to face Inter Miami next season, a domestic club of none other than Lionel Messi

It seems that helping Wrexham get two consecutive promotions under their belt wasn’t challenging enough for the actor duo, prompting them to seek out further tests elsewhere. The surprising development was reported by Variety as both Reynolds and McElhenney have bought a minority stake in Liga MX. The Welsh club owners will now be working with the development of the century-old Mexican club. Interestingly, they aren’t the first A-listers to invest in Club Necaxa.

The Wrexham owners will be teaming up with celebrity minority stakeholders such as actor Eva Longoria, Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander, model Kate Upton, and NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Even though the Welsh side remains the most precious possession in the lives of the actor duo, both seem to have decided to give their time to the Mexican side as well.

Even though it’s unclear what role Reynolds and McElhenney will exactly have at Club Necaxa, both are expected to bring all of the expertise they exhibited at Wrexham to the table. So be it another documentary surrounding the Mexican side or the humorous announcement of deals, fans are surely in for a treat. But what’s more exciting is the possibility of seeing Reynolds and McElhenney’s side potentially face Inter Miami.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will have a chance to face Lionel Messi and Inter Miami!

Being a Liga MX side, Club Necaxa has the opportunity to face Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in two ways. The first is through the CONCACAF Champions League, which would require Club Necaxa to qualify higher in the Mexican domestic league, securing one of the top six spots eligible to play in the CONCACAF-based tournament. While this option may seem challenging, what’s the second option?

The other way is through the Leagues Cup, a tournament held among clubs from the USA, Canada, and Mexico. However, the Liga MX side would only be able to pursue this opportunity next season. In the current season, while Miami’s journey has already ended in the CONCACAF Champions League, they are competing in the Leagues Cup. Meanwhile, Club Necaxa failed to qualify for either tournament.
