Once again, Messi caught everyone off guard with his brilliant two assists. However, it was the 18-year-old teenage sensation Benjamin Cremaschi who grabbed the limelight. Notably, the Argentina-born talented midfielder orchestrated the assist to Josef Martinez that helped them clinch the third goal.

In fact, Cremaschi even displayed nerves of steel as he netted the final penalty that concluded in a victory for Miami. After the match, he was taken aside by Nico Cantor to express his thoughts on the game. Cremaschi said, “Of course, we’re living the dream. You know i’m enjoying it and I know when I have to go out there, I have to kill it, but yeah I am living a huge dream.”

Cantor asked what was Messi’s reaction after Cremaschi scored the final penalty. The midfielder replied he just “congratulated” him. The youngster further added that he “never believed” to be in the position he is. He also revealed how La Pulga helps the young players in the team. “He tries to help the young guys and tell them to understand what they need. And obviously, we just try to absorb everything he says cause he’s the best player in the world.”

Perhaps it must have been Messi’s pep talks that inspired Cremaschi to play an emphatic game. He must be hoping to play with the World Cup winner at the Argentinian camp someday. Although he represents America, there are rumors he may ditch them despite Gregg Berhalter’s efforts.

Looking to ditch the USMNT

Born in Miami, Benjamin Cremaschi holds dual citizen American and Argentinian citizenship and can represent either country at the senior level. After contributing to the U.S. under-20 squad training alongside potential senior World Cup team members in October, he joined Argentina’s U-20s camp the following month. But it seems he might stick with the 2022 World Champions. Interestingly, in an interview, he hinted that Messi’s presence might sway his final decision. Concurrently, the USMNT is also pursuing Cremaschi.

Despite Gregg Berhalter’s praise for the youngster earlier, it seems he would likely ditch the Americans and play for La Albicleste. However, considering Argentina’s impressive lineup, Cremaschi might find it easier to establish himself as a consistent player in the U.S. national team compared to his prospects within the reigning world champions. This factor could enhance Berhalter’s pursuit and make his interest appealing. Be that as it may, Cremaschi must confront the need to commit to one nation.
