He said, “If it wasn’t for Sporting CP, Cristiano Ronaldo would be waiting tables and receiving the minimum wage in some café or restaurant in Funchal. So, it would be great for him to finish his career at Sporting CP, even if it were to receive nothing. Just out of gratitude.”

It’s true that Sporting CP was the first who discovered Cristiano Ronaldo’s talent at a young age. However, it’s the athlete’s hard work and mentality, which further helps them to grow as a player.

Therefore, Ronaldo’s success belongs to all his achievements and awards he achieved from his individual performance, as well. António did mention Ronaldo as a top athlete, which indeed stands true. He mentioned, “Ronaldo is a little bit below the best player in the world, but he is still a top athlete. He is one of the best and it is premature to say that his career is about to end.”
