The past few months have seen an alarming increase in thefts and robberies revolving around families related to soccer players. And now, Cristiano Ronaldo and his family were hit with an unfortunate incident earlier tonight as his sister Katia Aveiro took to her social media to voice her frustrations. Katia, who was in Brazil earlier this week, was robbed at the Porto Alegre airport, raising questions about the security at the terminal.

Discussing the incident with her followers on Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister claimed, “To the couple who kept their glasses at Porto Alegre airport (…), I only regret the attitude. I got up from where I was sitting to board, and they sat down and pretended that what was there wasn’t mine. Fortunately, I can buy a few more, but this gesture will remain on your conscience. The law of sowing is relentless, and no one can buy honesty.”

It seems like Aveiro was not too pleased with the incident and also shared a photo of her missing items with her husband, attempting to identify the stolen objects. Her brother Cristiano is yet to react to the news. However, it is understandable that the player has to be frustrated with the recent incident. Katia’s episode is one of many in Brazil, with thefts and robberies on the rise in the South American nation’s airports.

While the incident with Katia Aveiro might have raised concern among fans, you’d be surprised to know this has been a common incident in Brazil for the past few years. The Brazilian government is doing its best to curb the criminal syndicates active in high-profile locations. Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in his public address in January, promised to increase security at airports, ports, and international borders, with armed forces likely to be deployed to the locations.

Key cities such as Rio and Brasilia have already seen an increase in security personnel in recent months, with the government looking to target syndicates by going after their financial sources. However, it will be critical to see if the Brazilian government can make a substantial dent, with the crime rate witnessing an alarming increase within the nation.
