Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s previous season at Wrexham was truly magical. Their commitment to the sport has garnered tons of attention, especially that of McElhenney. After a record-breaking season, everybody is talking about Wrexham. Recently, a well-known politician urged the Welsh authorities to capitalize on the club’s global success starting from the grassroots level.
It is important to remember that both of them were complete strangers to the sport once upon a time. In such a short span of time, they have managed to do the unthinkable by putting Welsh soccer on a global pedestal.

Politician Jack Sargeant was recently in conversation with Mark Drakeford, the First Minister of Wales. During the proceedings, he revisited the soccer discussion. Interestingly, Sargeant has an important connection with the sport. Back in 2020, he joined the board of Connah’s Quay Nomads FC in Deeside. As a respected individual in the Welsh soccer community, he decided to speak up.
Firstly, he appreciated the efforts of Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney. He said, “I was very happy to see Co-Chair of Wrexham AFC Rob McElhenney spend some time with the women’s team. When he played them towards the end of last season. He complimented their skill and commitment as a club”. Sargeant then showcased Wrexham’s recent success and urged that the Welsh FA should capitalize on it.

He continued, “I think it’s important now that we capitalize on this incredible journey, not just a Wrexham level. But right across North Wales and particularly at the grassroots level of the game. I would see the next Helen Ward or Bale building on the legends of Rush and Speed from North Wales play at our Highest level in Wales”.
Undoubtedly, Wrexham’s Hollywood duo has regenerated the buzz around Welsh soccer. Apart from that, Reynolds has already put forward his long-term ambition for his club. Let’s have a look at some of their efforts since arriving at the club.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have helped Wrexham grow as a brand as well as a soccer team. Apart from their success on the pitch, the two of them have redone a lot of groundwork. They first brought the Welsh soccer club to financial stability. Prior to the takeover, the Deadpool star had already penned down a docuseries deal. Apart from that, they also renovated the gym and turf at the Racecourse.
The new owners also created a global social media presence for the club. That is the most important aspect of publicity in today’s generation. On the club’s second takeover anniversary, Wrexham announced its social media saw a 921.23% increase since the takeover. They had proudly sold more than 24,000 shirts last season. Without a doubt, it is just onward and upward for Wrexham and Welsh soccer!
