Wrexham AFC has become a household name recently. The world’s third-oldest club garnered the attention of the fans after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over on February 9, 2021. But what had made the club garner so much attention? The answer is simple: the owners and their masterstroke, Welcome To Wrexham.
Who would have thought a documentary revolving around the club would help the club massively? Welcome To Wrexham did it in the first season and is now set to have its second season soon. And according to Executive Director Humphrey Ker, there will be a focus on one aspect of the club that went missing in the first season.

No one has talked enough about Wrexham AFC’s women’s team. It was almost dysfunctional until Reynolds and McElhenney took over. Last season revolved completely around the men’s team and how they missed the promotion narrowly. Meanwhile, the women’s team made progress silently after the owners committed the money.
The season 2022-23 came as a memorable season for the men’s team as they achieved promotion to League Two. However, the victory parade in Wrexham saw the women’s team as a significant part of the celebrations. Because they won their league and got promoted to the first division after winning the playoffs. It was an immense achievement for the team.

Recently Humphrey Ker was on the SportsPro show and made some revelations regarding the absence of the women’s team from season one and how they will be the focus of season two. Ker said, “The women’s team was sort of effectively defunct before we came in. Rob and Ryan committed some money to that program in the last two years. We just won the Genero Adran North title, and they won their playoff against Briton Ferry and were promoted.”
“I know in the second season of the documentary that’s a huge focus. I think at the time what’s strange about the first season of the documentary is that it actually straddles a season and a half. So you have a whole section of documentary that covers a period where women’s team didn’t actually exist. Now you can absolutely say that they should have gone in and talked about the setup in season one. But season two I know it is a big focus of what they’re doing,” the executive director added.
