While Messi did take to the field, this could have been a risky move on Argentina’s behalf. The Inter Miami star has been out with injury issues for a while now and has yet to start a game since last month. If Messi could have picked up an injury during the game, this could have been an enormous blow to Argentina’s Qualifiers campaign.

Messi has yet to make a complete recovery

Lionel Messi has been in great form following his move to Inter Miami. However, the player’s sensational run came to an abrupt run as he was forced to sit down after picking up a knock during training. Messi’s absence was a big blow for his club as the side was knocked out of the race to the MLS Playoffs.

Fans hoped that Messi would make a return to Argentina during the international break. However, Lionel Scaloni and his management team do not want to take any risks with the player. Argentina opted to start Julian Alvarez with Lautaro Martinez while Messi made an appearance off the bench.
