Aiming to win their third consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup, the USWNT remains pumped to make it happen. However, several injuries to the squad probably dampen their chances. Soccer stars Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe may be performing at their best, but some players are indispensable to the team. One of them is the budding midfielder, Rose Lavelle. The player plays for OL Reign, but she suffered an injury setback to her knee. OL Reign coach Laura Harvey explained the reasons for this in a notable injury update.

It is disappointing news for the USWNT because they have already lost Catarina Macario and Mallory Swanson. Therefore, these injuries keep piling on, and the team would need fresh additions to replace the current injuries.

Expected to make a comeback before the World Cup, the knee injury is more grievous than the first instances. Coach Laura stated, “She was really on track to be back, then she had a little bit of a setback…I would love her to be on the field tomorrow. I don’t think that’s gonna happen.” Earlier, the coach explained how she returned to training, but this news remains an issue for the club and the national team. But they keep their spirits high in the hope of getting her back as soon as possible.

Harvey continued, “I hope that we get to see her before the WC but honestly, right now I don’t know.” She picked a slight knock during the USWNT’s first friendly against Ireland in April. Although it was not severe as first feared, the problems keep arising for the team. The midfielder missed the last eight games due to the injury, and her inclusion in the national team camp is in doubt. Lavelle is one of the crucial players on the team, and her transition from defense to attack is indispensable for the team.

Serious injuries to star USWNT players

Apart from Lavelle, two key players will miss the national team because of injury. Attacking player Catarina Macario and star winger Mallory Swanson will miss the World Cup due to serious injuries. Macario suffered a torn ACL injury which will keep her out for a year. The injury happened in June 2022. On the other hand, Mallory tore her patella tendon last month, which will keep her out for several months.

Thus, when players are injured, other players step up to be counted. Many players can make themselves decisive for the team and help the USWNT win their third consecutive World Cup. Do you think they will miss these superstar players?
