It was a momentous occasion when Argentina took home the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The team had gone through a lot of adversity to get to that point, and their victory was a celebration of everything they had overcome. Argentina’s World Cup-winning team was the recipient of a very generous gift, but it wasn’t from Lionel Messi, as many might have expected.

Lionel Messi is not the one behind the gold iPhones gift

It has recently come to light that it was not, in fact, Messi who gifted the iPhones. On the “Price of Football” podcast, British broadcaster Kieran Maguire revealed that the true identity of the benefactor is an Argentine businessman.

Firstly, he joked about the inefficiency of the gift saying, “Wouldn’t be particularly useful, especially at making phone calls”.  He then stated, “There has been a photograph of this on social media and his(Lionel Messi) name was linked to it. But subsequently, it would appear that I think he is taking the credit. He is probably not taking the credit, people have put two and two together.
