The whole world of sports will mourn the loss of former England captain, Sir Bobby Charlton who passed away today. The condolences and tributes have been pouring in for the former Manchester United and England legend. One of the biggest fans and beneficiaries of the late Sir Bobby and former United legend David Beckham also took an opportunity to express his grief and gratitude to the 1966 World Cup winner.

Sir Robert Charlton born in Ashington, United Kingdom in 1937 is one of the greatest contributors to English and World soccer. Involved in a lot of charities and development programs in sports, Sir Bobby was a great asset to this world on and off the field. David Beckham also expressed what it meant to him after hearing the news.

David Beckham gets emotional about Sir Bobby Charlton

David Beckham was one of the many people who were blessed by Sir Bobby’s career and initiatives. Beckham, whose middle name is Robert, was named after Sir Bobby. Apart from having similarities in captaining both England and Manchester United, Sir Bobby was Beckham’s father’s role model. The Inter Miami owner penned down a very emotional message after receiving the news of Sir Bobby.

Beckham took to Instagram to pen a heart-filled tribute. “I will be forever grateful to a man I was named after, someone I looked up to and was a hero to many around the world not just in Manchester and our country where he won the World Cup in 1966.”

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger could not express how grateful he was. Beckham pressed on, mentioning that Sir Bobby was not only an inspiration in the country but also the whole world. The family of Sir Bobby Charlton had earlier revealed that the former player passed peacefully in the morning hours of Saturday. Sir Bobby was 86 years old.

David Beckham also expressed his condolences to the entire family of the soccer legend, which included his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. David also wrote, “Our thoughts go out to Lady Norma, their daughters, and grandchildren x Rest in Peace Sir Bobby.”

Sir Bobby Charlton a major influence in  David Beckham’s rise

Sir Bobby played a very important role for David Beckham to reach where he was. After retiring from a highly successful career, Sir Bobby took up coaching and established a youth scheme. The scheme included David Beckham in it as a child learning soccer.

Beckham had the opportunity to meet the late World Cup-winning superstar at the age of ten and was a part of his Bobby Charlton Soccer School. Since then, the Inter Miami boss also had a great soccer career ahead. Apart from his own school, Sir Bobby was involved in finding the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000, which helps children all over the world.
