Manchester City has to be on cloud nine after their latest milestone. The club became the first English franchise to win the Premier League title for the fourth consecutive season. However, the team’s win has been marred with controversies with a section of fans linking their win to their FFP scandal. Many experts believe things need to come to an end soon if the team wishes to move past the accusations.

However, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand amidst the criticism has stood by his arch-rivals. The defender talked about Manchester City’s run being spoiled by the allegations against the team.

Ferdinand stated, “It’s hard to explain how difficult that is. To continually reboot and go again, season after season, with the intensity they play with, the scrutiny, the pressure, the daily ask to get up and go every single day, to achieve that, it’s a relentless pursuit of elite performance and they have done it.”

He then added that fans need to be respectful of City’s achievements despite the white noise. “There are people talking about other aspects outside that could change that, but you have to respect these guys. The individuals who are there have been fantastic and they have been super elite consistently.” (Quoted by EuroSport)

The FFP scandal around the reigning champions won’t come to an end anytime soon with the Premier League authorities still investigating the club. Premier League CEO Richard Masters who has been overseeing the situation believes the committee will reach an outcome, but there is no confirmation on the tentative schedule.

Richard Masters refuses to give a tentative date over Manchester City’s hearing in the FFP scandal

Manchester City was accused of breaching 115 FFP charges back in 2022, with the cases dating back to 2009. Reports claimed the club inflated their numbers to show profit and did not support the bodies investigating the case. Fans have been vocal about the case but it doesn’t seem like things will be resolved any time soon.

Masters talked about the the impending hearing earlier this year stating, It’s now in the hands of an independent panel. I can’t comment on it, it’s with them, and they will set the timeline. And I can’t comment on when it will come to fruition. But it will be heard, it will come to fruition, I just can’t say when, and I can’t comment on it.”

It will be interesting to see if the Sky Blues are found guilty in the case. Do you think the club should be relegated from the Premier League if they are found guilty? Sound off in the comments below.
