It has been weeks since a devastating earthquake hit Turkey and Syria. With death tolls leading up to 25 thousand, and thousands injured, the whole world is praying for the quake-hit areas. The government has announced an emergency in the areas where the Earthquake had the most impact. They ramped up the work to remove rubble and save any potential survivors. One such potential survivor was soccer star Christian Atsu.
When the Quake first hit, it was chaos all around. It has been a few hours since Christian Atsu’s family last talked to him. However, they got revealed when the president of Atsu’s club announced that Atsu was rescued and hospitalized hours after the quake. The happiness of his family would last half a day as his agent declared Atsu Missing.

Remembering Christian Atsu
A few days ago, Atsu’s wife came on TV, talking about how they felt and how they were dealing with the news. The soccer player was missing and believed to be stuck in the rubble even days after they announced his rescue. Yesterday the world got the answer to what happened with Christian Atsu. His agent yesterday announced that Christian Atsu was dead under the rubble of his building.

Talking about the news, former Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez paid his tribute to the fallen soccer star. He said, “I was really sad to hear the news. But, I was following the news for a while because they said that he was fine, he was in hospital and after it was not true.”
“And I was in contact with one ex-player, a Turkish player, and he was telling me that he was feeling that it would be bad news. So a special person and everybody always, you can see the pictures, always with a smile, playing or not playing. So really sad for him and for everyone that has been involved in that because it is a tragic news.”

The entire world is shocked and mourning the untimely demise of the soccer star. There aren’t any statements from his family yet. They had their world taken from them after giving them assurance that they had rescued Atsu.
The family got the news from the radio
Talking to BBC, Atsu’s wife told the gut-wrenching story when they came to know about his ‘false rescue’. Earlier, the club’s president had announced that Atsu was alive and taken to the hospital. About 11 hours later, she and the kids got the heartbreaking news from the radio.

She sounded hopeful that somehow Atsu will be safe, but yesterday all those hopes were crushed. Ghana lost a hero, a family lost their member and soccer lost a star. It is a heart-melting situation. Rescuers in Turkey and Syria are doing their best to save anyone and everyone they can.
